Meatbag
(Jun, 2016)

A performance I created as a spiritual successor to Beast and Animal in collaboration with Amy Golden.

This piece depicts a transgressive relationship between two performers. A director stands behind an actor who is only permitted to take directions from a projection screen that is placed in front of them. The director gives this performer a crude set of abstract instructions through the projection, which becomes increasingly difficult to follow as the piece progresses. The director expresses his frustration at the actors inability to understand these rules, and their actions become increasingly hostile toward the actor.

I'm still unsure what this piece was exactly about. At first I thought I was exploring how one can get lost in their work and forget how to communicate with other humans, but eventually I realized it was more about my latent transgressive attitudes towards other humans that originate from growing up in Texas.
